Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection is the national policy which involves sustainable development of economy and society. On the one hand, traditional energy like coal and petroleum is facing shortage crisis and environmental pollution induced by usage of traditional energy is becoming heavily. On the other hand, release of organic wastewater is getting more and more with the development of economy and increase of population. Energy shortage and environmental pollution are two hot issues in the society. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have been advocated to solve these problems. MFC is a device that converts chemical energy stored in the organic matter to electricity using microorganisms as the biocatalyst. If organic wastewater were used as fuel, MFC could produce electricity and meanwhile provide a new method to solve the problem of wastewater treatment. So the technology is promising, sustainable and clean.

¡¡¡¡At present, study on MFCs is still limited in laboratories. Lower power output, higher cost and smaller volume of MFC are problems needed to solve. Some examples like robot or calculator using MFC as power provider have showed.

¡¡¡¡The members in this research group are as follows: Suling Yang(postdoctor), Shaoqiang Yang(06 master candidate), Xinpin Du(07 master candidate), Yufeng Han(07 master candidate) and Fangzhou Du(08 master candidate).
